WESTERNPORT, Md.—Christ Memorial Church, Westernport, had a senior citizen’s health fair on Nov. 12, with representatives from the Allegany County Health Department, the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, Appalachian Wellness Center, Piney Valley Health Care in Keyser, WV. There were also information tables manned by representatives from the Association of Mature Citizens of America (AMAC), Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, AARP, and Christ Memorial Church’s parish nurse.
Church members provided free lunches and gave each visitor a first aid kit.
“We are very excited at the reception of this program in the community, and the opportunity to share the love of Jesus to our neighbors,” said Tammy Warnick, event coordinator.
The church used money from a Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware Strengthening Churches Grant to fund the event.
“We made some great contacts in our community with people who requested prayer and some follow-up. This was our first run at a health fair and we learned a lot from the professionals who attended,” Warnick said.
About a dozen members helped with the event, a great percentage in a church with about 30 regular attenders.
“Our tiny church is a giving church; God continues to bless us financially, and we are thrilled to use the funds God provides to serve Westernport and the Tri-Towns area,” said Warnick. “We plan to hold another health fair in the spring; all of the health care professionals expressed interest in participating again,”
