This summer, the North American Mission Board and Greg Laurie’s Harvest America will host Crossover evangelism events, culminating with a Stadium Crusade at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Churches throughout Maryland and Delaware are invited to participate through canvassing their own neighborhoods and hosting the free live stream at their churches!

Has it been a while since you tried door-to-door? Wanna give it a go?

Here are some ideas:

  1. Before you knock on 50 or 100 random doors, start with follow-up. Knock on the doors of those who recently visited your church.
  2. Have something in your hand to give them. Carry a 9-volt battery and tell them you want to give it to them to refresh the one in their fire alarm. And mention if they want their spiritual batteries recharged to join you at church next Sunday. When you add value and give, folks listen better. Ask if they have any prayer needs and offer to pray for them right there or add their need to a prayer list. Show you care right there!
  3. Bathe the strategy in prayer – before, during and after. This needs to be an anointed effort. You are stepping square into the middle of spiritual warfare when you take the gospel out to the neighborhood. Prayer is foundational.
  4. Make it easier with a strong reason for the knock that you can mention to the person behind the door. For instance, organize an evangelistic event you’re inviting people to and make that the reason you’re going door-to-door. You’re then telling folks that you’re simply making the invites to the neighborhood personally. (And… offer to pray with them right there to see if gospel conversations will open up.)
  5. Do something fun with the team that goes door-to-door. Meet up for pizza or snacks to debrief and celebrate the adventure of faith everyone just took.

The entire Southern Baptist Convention is leveraging this door-to-door strategy to make a HUGE IMPACT in the cities where they hold their annual meeting each summer. And they’ve been doing that for YEARS.

Why? Because it works.

It’s called “Crossover.” And now, the SBC is doing something interesting to add kerosene to that fire. They’re combining it with a HUGE evangelistic event. So it’s door-to-door soul-winning that includes invitations to a big evangelistic event.

Last year, at the annual meeting in Phoenix, over 1,000 people hit the streets for “Crossover Phoenix,” going door-to-door.

They saw 79 professions of faith. Crossover seminary students saw 72 professions of faith. They invited everyone they spoke with to Harvest America, where Pastor/Evangelist Greg Laurie preached the Gospel.

(Harvest is now the crowning evangelistic event in every city where the SBC meets for at least the next several years. Greg Laurie’s church is an SBC church in southern California.)

Here are the results: 425 local churches participated. Over 38,000 attended the Harvest America “crusade.” There were 120,642 Facebook Live video views.

Most importantly, there were 2,904 professions of faith at the stadium and an additional 494 online professions of faith.

So there are two takeaways:

1. You can do this on a local scale right there in your church using your own members, door-to-door and a Harvest Sunday or similar evangelistic event to see more come to Christ in one weekend than the average church sees all year.

2. You can be part of the next Crossover, happening in Dallas June 8-10… including Harvest America, which hopes to see their own record of “the highest attended one-day evangelistic event in American history” broken this year at AT&T Stadium.
