Trainings Offered:
-Introduction to Southern Baptist Disaster Relief
Required for all new volunteers. This class will give an overview of the work of Disaster Relief and ministry with disaster survivors. We will also cover what to expect on a disaster response, what to bring, etc.
-Flood Recovery and Chainsaw Teams
This class will overview the work of the recovery team: flood recovery, chainsaw and temporary repairs with emphasis given to safety. The primary area of focus will be flood recovery. Although this is a physical ministry, many recovery tasks in the field do not require great physical strength.
-Laundry Team
The laundry team provides an important support for our volunteers, other responders and community during disaster response. Volunteers will learn procedures for all stages of the laundry process from initial guest contact to returning clean laundry, with an emphasis on safe operation of equipment and spiritual care ministry.
-Disaster Administration
This class is an overview of what happens behind the scenes during a deployment. We will discuss methods and tools for managing job requests, camp operations (including housing, meals and other support items), dealing with people (both the customer and our volunteers) and the general mechanics of running a smooth operation. If available, students may find it useful to have a smart phone, tablet, or laptop with them.
While registering, please indicate which classes you would like to take. New volunteers are required to complete two classes in order to receive their badge—one of these must be Introduction to Disaster Relief, even if you watched the online overview video.
There will be more upcoming trainings if you are not able to make it to this one.
