ReNew Kids Ministry Conference

2 Corinthians 4:16-18
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

It’s been a long, frustrating, and challenging last six months! But God…we have seen Him moving in new ways as we have been challenged to RENEW our ministries. Let’s come together as we learn how to:

ReNew our relationships with children and families after COVID-19
ReNew our ministries as we adjust to new ways of gathering
ReNew our passion for children’s ministry after a season of momentary affliction

One of our main focuses will be on the mental state of our children as we begin to regather. Our children have all experienced some form of trauma over the last six months; some, more than others. Some, who were already struggling with trauma, have been buried under the weight of it all. And others are simply struggling to deal with the world being turned upside down. Let’s come together as parental allies and prepare ourselves to serve our children and families to the best of our ability. That means digging deep into kids’ minds to gain a better understanding of what their behaviors may look like in the fall and how we can best serve them.

Our role as children’s ministry leaders has pivoted to more than choosing curriculum and crafts. It’s building up spiritual champions, mentoring families as they discover how to disciple their children at home and helping parents and children cope with the changes in their lives. Families are looking to you for help and guidance. It’s our responsibility to stretch ourselves to lead the best way we can in the environment God has entrusted us with. Join us for this half day conference as we RENEW our ministries and our passion!

Trauma and Our Children – Eliza Huie

Tragic accidents, a natural disaster, exposure to violence in person or on screens, the loss of a family member, or living through a global pandemic can threaten the peace and security of childhood. More common threats such as divorce, abuse, unexpected life changes, or major health events also have the potential to disrupt a child’s sense of well being, leaving them with feelings of uncertainty and hopelessness. Our children need help to learn to cope when their world has been impacted by these and other traumatic events. Eliza offers insight and understanding that will equip us in bringing care and compassion to children touched by trauma.

Breakouts

5 Strategies for Children’s Ministry Online – Nick Blevins
Whether our churches are meeting in-person or not, we should continue to reach and connect families online. In this breakout, we’ll talk about 5 strategies for children’s ministry online that your church can use to help engage kids and empower parents to be faith leaders at home.

Trauma Informed Kids Ministry – Kim Botto
Millions of American children have experienced trauma. Because of their past experiences, traditional responses and discipline simply aren’t effective. Join us as we dig into “why” behind disruptive behavior while learning practical and proven methods to respond to kids with challenging behavior in healthier and more effective ways. In a trauma informed ministry, volunteers are empowered, parents feel welcomed and understood, and kids are better able to hear and understand the love of Jesus.

Managing Stress & Making Connection – Eliza Huie & Jessica Shen
This breakout will give you hands-on tools to help families manage stress and make better connections with one another and experience the peace God intends them to have. Eliza Huie and Jessica Shen combine their years of counseling expertise to provide you with valuable exercises and resources you can share with your families.

Becoming Trauma Informed: Connecting With Kids In Church – Ryan and Kayla North
Children’s ministry is perhaps the most vital ministry of the church. It’s why families come, why families stay and, unfortunately, why families sometimes leave a church. Churches often focus on the programs, curriculum, lights, and music that make a children’s ministry great but often forget the impact of making children feel safe, secure and loved. This eye-opening training will equip pastors, children’s ministry leaders and volunteer to see the connection between the hard things we all face and our ability to facilitate healthy, loving relationships.
