KENT ISLAND, Md.—First Baptist Church, Kent Island (FBCKI), will host an interactive, “Experiencing God” workshop from noon to 4 pm on Nov. 17, led by Claude King, who together with Henry and Richard Blackaby coauthored, “Experiencing God, Knowing the Will of God.” Christians have been reading the book and participating in the Bible-based book studies and workshops for over 25 years.
The interactive workshop will cover understanding God’s desire for our individual lives. It’s designed for those who want the experience for themselves, leaders who want to mature in their walk with Christ, and those who want to bring such a study to their churches. The workshop is free. Study books are available for $10, almost $6 off of the retail cost, but they are not required for the workshop.
Pastors and lay leaders are invited to meet with King at 10 am and then enjoy lunch together at 11 am prior to the workshop. King will share and answer questions at that time.
Doug Baughan, the pastor of First Baptist Church, Kent Island, remembers when he first heard Dr. Henry Blackaby present the material at Lake Shore Baptist Church many years ago.
“I loved the premise and major themes. So many churches today either don’t know their gifts or they’re not at peace with them.” Baughan said. “We have to get back to the focus, to see where God is at work and be a part of it.”
Discerning God’s will for our lives is essential, Baughan said, adding that often churches fill leadership roles with people who aren’t called or gifted for that role. Those situations are especially difficult in small churches, he said.
Baughan said he is happily anticipating the workshop and he encourages all to attend.
Register online. For pastors and leaders who plan to attend the earlier meeting at 10 am please call the church office to reserve a seat. Call (410) 643-6574 or email fbcki@verizon.net.
