Baptist Mission Resource Center

The corporate office of the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware, known as the Baptist Mission Resource Center (BMRC), is nestled within the planned communities of Columbia, Md., a suburb of Washington, D.C.

Located close to the center of the two-state convention’s region, the office is home to the executive and finance offices as well as to office suites for the church strengthening, church multiplication, and communications teams.

The building also boasts an auditorium and a classroom, both fitted with state-of-the-art technology for conferencing and planning meetings, as well as several smaller field offices and meeting rooms. An onsite kitchen allows for easy catering, and a dedicated history room serves as an archival storage and display of cherished items from Baptist history in our region.

In 2010, the BCM/D sold a portion of the BMRC to an environmental firm, renovating its own space in the process. With an updated professional decor, the newer area easily accommodates BCM/D’s continued mission to strengthen and start new churches—all while taking advantage of increased energy cost savings and a reduction in operational overhead.

Skycroft Conference Center

Nestled in 300 wooded acres on South Mountain in Middletown, Md., right along the Appalachian Trail and the site of the Civil War’s “Battle of South Mountain,” the Skycroft Conference Center offers it all—a place to learn, fellowship, have fun and just relax.

In addition to lodging for up to 300 people, conference facilities, banquet halls, a gymnasium, pool, and a theater, many visitors don’t realize there are three ponds on the property that are great for fishing. There are also miles of hiking trails.

Outdoor facilities also include volleyball, softball diamonds, basketball courts, soccer fields, Frisbee golf, horseshoes, cornhole, Gaga ball pit, human fooseball course, 9-Square in the Air, dodgeball course, as well as extra fee options: rope courses, paintball and zipline.

The center offers ten conference areas with state- of-the-art equipment including Wi-Fi, projectors, white boards and AV equipment. There are also rooms available for breakout style sessions.

Skycroft Associate Director Emily Reedy said that in addition to the activities and fun, churches are always very appreciative of the food service at Skycroft.

There are two fully equipped dining halls that can seat over 400 guests. Meals are served buffet style and include multiple food choices and an extensive salad bar, in addition to a variety of juices, coffee, tea, and desserts.

The dining room staff is also available to provide scrumptious meals for special occasions, such as parties and banquets and they will serve tables, or provide buffet-style service.

For light fare, stop by Hebrews Cafe, in the Barnes reception building, offering coffee and espresso drinks, smoothies, pizza, hot pretzels and ice cream.

Skycroft is also a great opportunity for a local mission trip.

“There are always opportunities for mission teams to adopt or assist with enhancement projects,” said Reedy. First Baptist Church of Perryville installed a new brick pathway with bricks representing each church in the convention. Other churches have tended flowerbeds and mulched, painted, and helped with general chores.

Executive Director Doug DuBois said he loves to see how the serene location draws people to the mountaintop where God meets them.
