Glen Burnie, Md. – Glen Burnie Baptist Church (GBBC) celebrated its 70th anniversary on the weekend of October 15-16. Former members, former pastors, and other special guests came back to participate in the celebration. There was a banquet on Saturday evening, October 15 attended by both current and former members. After the banquet, a special anniversary concert was given in the church’s worship center featuring tenor soloist Brenten Megee from Lancaster, Pa.glen-burnie

On Sunday morning, October 16, a two-hour anniversary service featured words of greetings from several former pastors including Rev. Jim Bishop and Dr. David Jackson in person and Dr. Carroll Camp via special letter. Dr. David Lee, also a former interim pastor, was the keynote speaker. Lee is currently the pastor of “The Fellowship,” a church in Henderson, Nevada. Lee served as the Executive Director of the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware from 2000-2013. Mr. John Kelley, Jr., the church’s organist, played an organ mini-concert as the prelude to the service.

One of the highlights of the Sunday service was the special greetings from representatives from the six churches GBBC started in Anne Arundel County over its 70 years. They are Grace Baptist Church, The Church at Severn Run, Faith Baptist (Glen Burnie), Linthicum Baptist Church, Elvaton Baptist Church and Severna Park Baptist Church.

Currently, GBBC has four diverse congregations that meet on Sunday at their church’s facility. Besides GBBC which features classic worship at 11 am (Senior Pastor Bob Simpson), the three other partner congregations are the (1) Morning Light Korean Baptist Church which meets on Sunday morning in GBBC’s fellowship hall (Pastor John Choi), (2) the Bay Life Church (formerly the North Arundel Church) which features contemporary worship at 9:15 am (Pastor James Pope), and the Iglesia Hispana Nueva Esperanza which features Hispanic worship at 6 pm (Pastor Enrique Pazmino).
