Arundel Association
Crossroads Church, Severn, had a chili cook off/brownie bakeoff and a silent auction for some fun and fellowship and to raise money for the church’s mission activities.
The event took place immediately after an outdoor service at the church’s campus at Annapolis Area Christian School. Crossroads meets in a large multipurpose room at the school’s Severn campus.
Church members are mission-minded. In July, they’ll send a team to Zacatecas, Fresnio, Mexico. They will work with Ramone, pastor of Iglesia Bautista Gilgal, who coordinates their activities with his and other churches in the mountainous area. The team will do construction work and a variety of other outreach activities.
Church member, Dawn Piekarski, said Ramone was hoping the church could raise $2,000 to support a food distribution program. Piekarski said the church prayed for the fundraiser and God blessed. They raised approximately $4,800.
Other church mission trips include a youth trip to New York, an annual trip to help rebuild New Orleans and a mission outreach close to home with Habitat for Humanity projects in Baltimore. Individual church members have also taken mission trips to Africa.
Teens from the First Church, Edgewater, will work with Ocean City Resort minister ,Lyn Davis, this month, doing campground and street ministry. This is the group’s first mission trip.
First Church, Crofton, sent a youth mission team to Campbellsville, Ky., to minister to people by working on their roofs and decks.
Baltimore Association
The Stauros group, sponsored by White Marsh Church, had its annual rally at the church last month with special speakers and testimonies.
Members also sold crafts and baked goods on the church grounds during the rally to raise funds to support Stauros.
Stauros is a unique ministry to those struggling with addictions, but is unlike the usual twelve-step programs. For more information, see http://www.staurosministries.com.
First Church Lansdowne, served a luncheon to teachers and staff at Landsdowne Elementary School to show their appreciation for a year of service to the community children.
Parkville Church had a patriotic cantata last month called “God Bless the U.S.A.” that included popular and traditional patriotic favorites.
Streetlite Christian Fellowship had a baptismal celebration at Sandy Point State Park. Members had a picnic, played volleyball and swam, but the highlight was the baptism of about 30 people in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
Dawson Hull resigned as minister of worship at The Church on Warren Avenue. Hull accepted a call to serve as minister of instrumental music at Second Church, Warner Robbins, Ga.
Minister for administration and director of Warren Fine Arts Academy, Michael Gamon, leads a Brunch and Bible study for young adults after the 11 a.m. worship service on Sundays.
The church also has a campus ministry with Peabody Conservatory called The River at 7 p.m. on Tuesday nights.
They have a Bible fellowship at Sharp Leadenhall Community Room on Tuesday mornings, led by Pastor Lyn O’Berry.
Blue Ridge Association
Fellowship Church, Middletown, had an all-time high attendance of 63 for a campground worship and river baptismal service at the Brunswick Family Campground on June 14. Five new believers were baptized.
Later in June, church members manned a booth at a Middletown Recreation Council Independence Day celebration, helping the council sell tickets for a train/tractor ride through town and giving folks information about the church.
The church will have a children’s carnival on July 18 at Middletown Memorial Park. Jeff Morris, pastor of the new church plant, said the carnival promises to be the biggest outreach for the church yet.
“The Lord’s been doing a lot with us,” Morris said. “In December attendance was about 15. Now, we’re up to 35.”
Pleasant Valley Church, Rohresville, celebrates birthdays and anniversaries with monthly Sunday celebration breakfasts.
Delaware Association
The Delaware Association will have a ministry booth at the Delaware State Fair, in Harrington, July 24-Aug. 1. Church members throughout the association will give away homemade crafts, share Christ as the opportunity presents itself and give away information about their churches.
Mitch Dowell, current associate director of Embrace Baltimore, was elected to serve as the director of Embrace Wilmington. Dowell will live in Wilmington and begin his ministry in September
David Phillips, pastor of Mission Fellowship, Middletown, Del., received his Doctorate of Ministry, Leadership in the Emerging Culture from George Fox Seminary in Portland, Ore.
Roman Kaplan was ordained at Ogletown Church as pastor of the Russian/Ukrainian Mission.
Eastern Association
Faith Fellowship, Cambridge, (FFC) hosted a fishing tournament and fish fry last month. The church provided free food, bait, prizes, drinks and ice cream.
“It was fantastic,” Randall Blackmon, pastor of the church exclaimed. “We had over 80 registrants.”
About 25 volunteers, over half the church, donned orange shirts and hats with Matt. 4:19 printed on them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They shared the gospel, gave away Bibles and got to know lots of folks from near and far.
The church worked with a local restaurant to provide fried flounder, french fires and coleslaw to fishermen. FFC members also gave away prizes for the biggest fish caught each hour.
“I’m really proud of our people,” Blackmon said. Acts 1 chairman, Scott Mills, and his wife, Jennifer, coordinated the event.
The fishing outreach was supported by a BCM/D strengthening churches grant.
FFC members also hold an annual “Yard Giveaway,” serve breakfast to the homeless in their community, support a missionary couple, and assist in the Operation Christmas Child project in Charlotte, N.C.
Blackmon and the Acts 1:8 missions committee chairperson, Scott Mills, went to West Africa in January to minister to the Songhai people.
First Church, Easton, (FBC) sent a mission team to Ocean City to feed over 300 International students at Ocean City Church.
FBC Easton will send a mission team to Mexico in October and to Turkey in August. They also minister to migrant workers on the Eastern shore.
Mid-Maryland Association
The children’s ministry of Bethany Lane Church is hosting Wednesday evening car washes through July 8. The kids are washing the cars as a fundraiser for Centri-Kid for the children in 3rd to 5th grades. The younger kids are helping out.
Westminster Church is collecting supplies for three different missionaries including Trish Alligood, who ministers through Anchor House in Palmetto, Fla., reaching those who spend their lives at sea; Rebecca Hampton, who ministers at a Cowboy Church in Georgia; and Alice White who ministers at Savannah Baptist Center, in a poor neighborhood in Georgia.
The church’s teens will take a mission trip to West Virginia this month to visit a birthing center for women in prison. They’ll be taking baby items, and supplies for the new moms.
Montgomery Association
The Women on Mission at Seven Locks Church, Potomac, had a celebrate summertime tea.
The church ordained Associate Pastor Paul Craft on May 3. Craft ministers with the children and youth.
Viers Mill Church, Silver Spring, is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. The official celebration will be October 24 & 25. The anniversary committee is seeking pictures and memorabilia for the big event.
Montgomery Chinese Mission Church, Silver Spring, had revival services in June.
Potomac Association
First Church, Waldorf, youth and children are having a whirlwind of a summer. In addition to normal youth events, they had an All About Kids camp, followed by a MissionFuge trip to Philadelphia in June. This month they’ll be having fun, worshipping, learning and doing missions through Centrifuge, Centrikid and VBS.
The Potomac Association kicked off a new pastors/Sunday School Directors Network in June with a dinner meeting.
The youth of Trinity Church, Waldorf, will host Camp Jericho at Camp St. Charles in Newburg, Md., on Labor Day weekend. This is the third annual camp the teens are sponsoring. In fact, Trinity created Camp Jericho three years ago when they discovered a poor area in the western part of Charles County with a poverty rate of over 30 percent.
Teens raise money to offer the camp for free to needy children. Kids enjoy Bible lessons, games, worship, and if enough money is raised, swimming, kayaking and a confidence course. The last day of the camp is a back-to-school giveaway.
The youth group is doing fundraisers to help sponsor the children for the camp. They’re also encouraging church members to sponsor children for camp. The cost is $70.
Trinity Church has an Angel Food program, which offers quality food for a substantial discount with no income requirements. (See the June issue of BaptistLIFE).
Prince George’s Association
Clinton Church hosted a men’s conference on prostate cancer last month, sponsored by the Prince George’s Association. The conference was led by Adrien Ngudiankama, Faith-Based Partnerships project manager for the American Cancer Society and pastor of Salem Church, Baltimore.
Families from Landover Hills Church joined with other families on mission in Bryson City/Cherokee, N.C., on June 19-26. The 17-person team included children through senior adults. They ministered with local churches with and to Cherokee Indians.
Susquehanna Association
North Harford Church, Jarrettsville, is hosting its annual children’s camp at Camp Wo-Me-To June 28-July 2. Children ages 9-12 are enjoying hiking, swimming, arts and crafts, fishing and games while learning about Jesus.
First Church, Havre de Grace, will host a single’s ministry trip to Six Flags on July 11.
The church has several “special interest” Bible studies this summer. They include “Growing strong in God’s family,” “Parents of Youth” and “Survival Kit for Youth.”
Western Association
Grace Church, Cumberland, will send teams to do construction, VBS and other outreach and evangelism ministries this summer to Kentucky and to Mexico. This month they’ll be having their annual VBS at home. Douglas White, pastor of the church, said VBS is always a big outreach for the church.
Members of Grace Church will also help with the baby comfort station at the Alleghany County fair this month.
