Kathy Gray, ministry assistant at First Baptist Church of North East, will retire on August 31 after 36 years of service. She began as church secretary in 1980, shortly after Elwood Ulmer resigned and current pastor, Stephen Hokuf, began.

“We began serving at First Baptist Church of North East at the same time. I feel we’ve been a good team. We’ve shared many milestones over the years—births, deaths, graduations, and marriages of children, as well as changes in our church ministry,” Gray said.

She’s also seen many changes in the church. Ministries and staff were added, and, of course, technology advanced and provided many “challenges.”

“My motto has been to do everything to the best of my ability with the time, tools and equipment available and to remember that God loved everyone who visited or called the office and that He was/is always right there with me to handle each situation,” Gray said.
