Lola Carr served in ministry alongside her husband, Bill, for over 50 years. She played piano for three generations of pastors, her father, her husband, and her son.

WESTERNPORT–Lola Virginia Carr died on Feb. 14. Mrs. Carr was the wife of Pastor William Carr, who died in 2016. Mrs. Carr ministered alongside her husband for over 50 years in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Lola was a member of Bruce Outreach Center (BOC), Westernport, where her husband served as associate pastor prior to his death. (See story here.) Their son, Steffan Carr, is the senior pastor of BOC.

She was born in Sierra Leone, West Africa, on Nov. 29, 1935. Lola, a graduate of Bob Jones University, was a stay-at-home mom, devoting herself to caring for her family. She played piano for three generations of pastors—her father, her husband, and her son, Steffan. She also played the organ, the violin, flute, and piccolo. Her favorite hymn was, “Because He Lives.”

Lola is survived by her sons, Pastor Scott Carr Sr. and his wife, Wanda; Pastor Steffan Carr, and his wife Leslie; and a daughter Sharon Carr, Westernport; and four grandchildren, Scott Carr Jr., Joanna Carr, Alisha Carr, and Melody Carr, as well as many other family members and friends. Steffan said, “Many of those ‘friends and family’ considered her a mother, grandmother, and mentor in their lives.”

Steffan said his mother clung to Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Scott and Steffan officiated their mother’s funeral on Feb. 19 at Bruce Outreach Center. Interment was at Mt. View Cemetery, Moscow Mills. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Bruce Outreach Center, Philos Ave, Westernport, MD.
