Community Outreach
Barnesville Baptist Church (BBC) in Barnesville, Maryland, has developed a ministry with a local health rehabilitation center. Many of the church members have spent time at this center during extended illnesses.
The church leads music with a short devotional twice a month, but the most significant impact is the one-to-one ministry, according to BBC Pastor Danny Moore.
“We’ve built a great relationship with the center,” Moore says. “We get to go and pray with people in the rooms. They’ll also call us if someone is not doing well.” Recently, a patient asked for prayer for her son, who was dying of cancer. Moore said it was wonderful for this woman to have a chance to share her concerns.

DID YOU KNOW …
In 1836, after the first meeting of the Maryland Baptist Union Association, a letter to the churches stated the reason for the organization. “… It is not that we may have dominion over your faith, but be helpers of your joy. Our sincere desire is that we may be one in purpose … united in a cordial and energetic cooperation for the advancement of His (Christ’s) blessed cause.” The letter goes on to state, “… we wish to base all our plans and purpose, and exertions, on the simple truth of God, as revealed in the Bible, and on that alone.”
