Jim Burcham retires after serving 44 years
James Burcham will retire on June 5 after serving in ministry for 44 years. Burcham, and his wife Rose Ann, grew up in North East, Md. where they met as seniors in high school. James is a graduate of Carson Newman College. He began his ministry in Maryland as senior pastor of a mission church in Perryville, then ministered as senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Havre de Grace, for 17 years before coming to Upper Marlboro in 1993.
Western Baptist Association transitions to mobile office
Seventeen pastors and other leaders, representing ten Western Baptist Association churches, met at a specially called executive committee meeting at First English Baptist Church on March 1 to consider proposals to save costs and reflect recent changes God has been making to the ministry over the past several years.
The group voted to close the association office on March 31. Director of Missions Kenny Heath will become “mobile,” working from his home. The association secretary, Rhea Pritts, who has served for 40 years, will retire on that same day. Exceedingly grateful for her service, the association will not seek a replacement.
