ABERDEEN, Md.—The Rev. James Allen Wright Sr. of Aberdeen, Md., died on September 14, 2017, at the age of 73. He served as pastor of Carsins Run Baptist Church for over 20 years, preaching the Gospel as well as ministering through music.
Carsins Run Sunday School Teacher Joan Ayres, and her husband, Charles, were longtime friends of The Rev. Wright. “He loved his family dearly,” Joan said. He was also a committed and dedicated preacher, persevering through times of illness. “He always focused on salvation,” Joan said.
She said the Rev. Wright was also a talented musician. “He played the electric guitar really well and sang with a group called, ‘The Shining Light.’ They sang at churches, and they would go to a nursing home to sing on the last Friday of the month. He sang hymns and he wrote and sang some of his own songs.”
He was born in Tazewell County, Va., and was the beloved husband of Helen “Hanks” Wright, loving father of James Wright, Jr. and his wife Tina, Johnny Wright, and Michael Wright, and loving grandfather of Jeremy and Kylie Wright. He is also survived by his twin brother, two sisters, and several brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as many other family members and his loving church family.
Rev. Charlie McCoy, from North Carolina, shared the message at the funeral on Sept. 18 at Carsins Run Baptist Church. The Rev. Wright was interred at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
