Leslie Vernick will be the guest speaker at Ogletown Baptist Church’s Women’s conference Oct. 10-11
Vernick is a Christian counselor and author, an international speaker and consultant and relationship coach with expertise on subjects of personal and spiritual growth, marriage improvement, conflict resolution, depression, child abuse destructive relationships and domestic violence.
Her books include, “The Emotionally Destructive Relationship,” “Lord, I Just Want to Be Happy,” “How to Act Right When Your Spouse Acts Wrong,” “How to find Selfless Joy in a ‘Me-First’ World,” and “How to Live Right When Your Life Goes Wrong.”
“One of the reasons I’m so passionate about helping people in difficult and destructive relationships is because I know what it feels like to be in one,” Vernick says on her website.
She shares how her parents went through an ugly divorce when Vernick was eight years old then suffered through a painful, destructive relationship with her alcoholic mother for years before living with her father. Vernick’s mother eventually chose to distance herself from her children.
Vernick says she eventually learned when and how to set up boundaries, how to confront and when to forbear, how to overcome evil with good and how to let go of negative messages swirling around in her head. Vernick has been married to the same man for 38 years and has two grown children and three grandchildren.
In the upcoming conference, Vernick will answer the question, “Does God want me to be happy?” She’ll also speak about managing negative emotions, getting rid of “stinkin’ thinkin’” and building healthy relationships, There will also be a question and answer time.
