GLEN ARM, Md.—Long Green Baptist Church will host “Reaching the World in Your Own Backyard,” on January 17 and 18. The conference is designed to bring awareness and intentionality to reaching the many people groups in Baltimore and the surrounding areas.
The two day event, led by International Mission Board Lead Strategist Terry Sharp, begins on Friday with an introduction to the ideas of migration and modern Diaspora and understanding the missiological implications. The Saturday sessions include discovering, mapping, prioritizing needs and engaging people groups and learning how to communicate cross culturally. There is also a midday field trip to mosques, temples and other houses of worship.
Dale South, Long Green Church senior pastor, said the church is sponsoring the conference to bring awareness to the need to engage the many people groups moving into the areas near the church.
“We want our people to be attuned—to have their ‘antennas up,’ when meeting people.
“We would eventually like to adopt a people group with a presence here in Baltimore and overseas,” he said.
Registration is $10 and includes a copy of J.D. Payne’s book, “Strangers Next Door”. Participants must purchase their own lunches on Saturday.
Register online or at the door. For more information see http://www.longgreenbc.org.
