BERLIN, Md.—SonRise Church officially kicked off their new ministry outreach with the grand opening of “Open Hand Thrift,” located at 10026 Main Street. They dedicated the store on April 1 with prayer and light refreshments.
“The idea came from our Creative and Media Director Jenna Legnaioli. She said the location of the new property being on Route 50 and Main Street Berlin and having existing buildings made it an ideal spot for a thrift shop,” said Traci McCready, wife of SonRise Pastor Daryl McCready and now manager of the thrift store.
“As we began to pray about the possibility of opening a thrift store and needing space for our backpack ministry and our ‘Sharing the Harvest’ mobile food pantry ministry, someone offered to cover all the expenses to renovate that building as well as cover the expenses for two part-time employees. I am the manager and (church member) Pam Wilson is the assistant manager.
The secondhand store, filled with a variety of donated treasures, will be open from 10 am to 4 pm Wednesdays through Saturdays in April, then in May they’ll transition to Monday through Saturday.
Profits support the church’s missions, outreach and multiplication ministries.
“One of our core values at SonRise is ‘Open Hand Living.’ We believe God owns it all and we should handle everything He gives us stewardship over with an open hand. Blessed to be a blessing,” Traci said.
