The Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware General Mission Board has called a special meeting of messengers for the purpose of considering the sale of a perpetual conservation easement on the Skycroft Property to the State of Maryland.
Here is the letter, written by BCM/D Executive Director David Lee, in its entirety:
Dear Pastor:
Because we sense God is at work among us, the General Mission Board has voted to call a special meeting of our messengers for the purpose of considering the sale of a perpetual conservation easement on the Skycroft Property to the State of Maryland. Skycroft is our convention-owned conference center located in Middletown, Md.
The meeting will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 14, 2013, at the South Columbia Baptist Church, (8814 Guilford Road, Columbia, MD 21046). Directions are enclosed for your convenience.
Also enclosed is the exact wording of the two motions to be presented, information concerning the proposed conservation easement transaction, as well as messenger cards for those whom you elect to send.
While everyone is invited to attend the meeting, there are guidelines, which limit the number of messengers each church may send. Please read the following excerpt from our convention Constitution (Article III).
Section 1. The membership of this Convention will consist of messengers who are members of Baptist churches which are in friendly cooperation with this Convention and sympathetic with its purpose and work, and which have during the preceding 12 months…been bona fide contributors to the work of this Convention.
Section 2. Each cooperating Baptist church will be entitled to two (2) messengers; each cooperating church exceeding fifty (50) members will then be given one additional messenger for each additional fifty (50) members or part thereof; or one additional messenger for each $750 contributed to the work of this Convention through the Cooperative Program until the maximum of thirty (30) is reached.
We encourage you to elect and send messengers to participate in this important decision-making process. In the meantime, we ask you to pray that God will give us wisdom.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Executive Office at the Baptist Mission Resource Center.
Yours in Him,
David H. Lee
Executive Director
