WALDORF, Md.—Trinity Baptist Church, Waldorf, is celebrating cultural diversity throughout the weekend of Feb. 24-26.

It kicks off on Friday with a roundtable discussion on racial issues in law enforcement starting at 7 pm and it includes a question and answer time with representatives from the Charles County Sheriff’s office.

On Feb. 25, the church will show the movie “Something the Lord Made.” Set the 1930’s, it tells the story of Vivien Thomas, an African American, who was hired as a janitor at Vanderbilt University, became the assistant to a surgeon, and went on to help perfect surgery known as “blue baby syndrome,” which paved the way for today’s heart by-pass surgery. Thomas himself eventually became a surgeon.

Then on Sunday, Feb. 26, they’ll have a special day of worship featuring guest speaker Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware Executive Director Dr. Kevin Smith. Following the service, they’ll have a fellowship meal representing the heritage of church members.
